Introduction
This report examines two authors view points on New Product Development by Slack-‘Operations Management and Brassington, Pettitt ‘Marketing’the manner in which it relates to this course is that it identifies issues of integration amidst Marketing and Operations coverage on conventional business predicaments.
The books which have been chosen are to show this is,
1) Slack, Nigel. ‘Operations Management’
2) Brassington, Pettitt Marketing
The report will also look at the method of analysis for contrasting types of markets, the stages of New Product Development from Operations point of view as well as Marketing’s point of view and how important it is.
The Design of Product and Service
This chapter is about the perpetual expansion of design and the conception of totally new design it is an important aspect for an organisation, in order to gain a strong competitive position. However we note from the examples illustrated in this chapter that it is not enough to just take an existing product and improve it, as competitors would be high on heels to provide an imitative product or come up with a completely different product or service of their own. Organisations would have to keep a comfortable flow of new design of product and service if they were to keep their strong competitive position.
Organisations may feel quiet confident about their new product but there is no way of guarantying it will be successful (Slack, 2004)
