INTRODUCTION
Leadership is a subject that has long excited interest among people (Yulk 2002, 1). Leadership is a subject which includes a great deal about changing people's minds, often in fundamental ways. The role of leadership in business is indisputable. Great leaders create great businesses. Leaders are people who can inspire people to reach company goals. For that reason, leaders are important in today companies. They are not a same people as managers, as managers are people who do things right, leaders are people who do right things.
The traits of an effective leader:
• Emotional stability. Good leaders must be able to tolerate frustration and stress.
• Dominance. Leaders are often times competitive and decisive and usually enjoy overcoming obstacles.
• Enthusiasm. Leaders are usually seen as active, expressive, and energetic. They are often very optimistic and open to change.
• Conscientiousness. Leaders are often dominated by a sense of duty and tend to be very exacting in character.
• Social Boldness. Leaders tend to be spontaneous risk-takers. They are usually socially aggressive and generally thick-skinned.
• Tough-mindedness. Good leaders are practical, logical, and to-the-point.
• Self-assurance. Self-confidence and resiliency are common traits among leaders.
• Compulsiveness. Leaders were found to be controlled and very precise in their social interactions.
1. LEADERSHIP STYLES
Kurt Lewin and colleagues did leadership decision experiments in 1939 and identified three different styles of leadership, in particular around decision-making.
1. 1 Autocratic
In the autocratic style, the leader takes decisions without consulting with others. The decision is made without any form of consultation. In Lewin's experiments, he found that this caused the most level of discontent.
An autocratic style works when there is no need for input on the decision, where the decision would not change...
