The subject for the research paper (project work) was chosen because the author of this paper works at Youth School and meets problems related to the education of such students and that her colleagues working at Youth School have a constant problem: students lack motivation for learning school subjects ( English language is not an exception). Teachers endeavour to increase students` motivation for learning, because one of the main goals of the Youth school is to "help students to return to the system of general education and to return and form students` self–confidence by fostering their motivation for learning." ( (2).doc) Work of the teacher at Youth school is more complicated then one of the teacher at general secondary school, because the teacher of the Youth school not only has to organise teaching process according to the Lithuanian General Teaching Programs And Standards of Education but also, by all ways and means, to increase pupils` motivation for learning.
A number of ways exists to achieve the goal. These ways are to be explored in order to help the teacher of the Youth school to choose the most appropriate ones. To find out the optimal ways to foster students` motivation and to understand the reasons of lack of motivation for learning- careful analysis of pedagogical and psychological materials should be done. The contemporary pedagogical-psychological literature, widely used in latest pedagogical studies, forms the theoretical basis for this research work. Analysis of documents, such as the Concept of the Youth Schools, and questionnaires are employed in this project work too. Moreover, new possibilities to increase the Youth School students` motivation for learning, offered by participation in the Education Improvement project, are analysed.
