The more fundamental question to be posed is whether individuals are ONLY a bundle of decision processes: rules of thumb that have no necessary relationship to an underlying attitude or coherence of an underlying preference. First, it should be emphasized that a pattern of coherence is evident in the markets. Convergence toward competitive equilibria occurred. It follows that the "reference point" was not so subject to moment-to-moment "framing" that preferences became so labile that they had no coherence. These markets behaved as if a large proportion of individuals had reasonably coherent and stable preferences. Of course, a large proportion of these preferences were exactly of the form that one would have expected from a reading of prospect theory, as stated by the "extended prospect theory."
