Christmas or Christmas day is an annual Christian holiday which is celebrated all around the world. That is a well-liked holiday with many different aspects, religious and secular, including various traditions, all kinds of symbols, cuisines, so every nation mention it in its own way. I will compare three different countries, three different ways of celebrating the most popular holiday in the year.
To begin with, it is necessary to mention the history of Christmas. It is quite long in the USA because of some troubles - Christmas was not celebrated by the American Colonists in the 1600s – the Puritans banned any observance of the holiday. They believed that the celebration was decadent and contrary to scriptural teaching. From 1659 to 1681, the celebration was outlaw in Boston - anyone exhibiting the Christmas spirit openly was fined five shillings. Besides, anyone missing work because of the holiday would be fired – factory owners required employees to come to work at 5 a.m., to insure they wouldn’t have time to go to church that day or students who failed to go to school would be expelled. It was not until the 19th century when Americans began to embrace Christmas. Things got better when Moravian colonists, who were protestant Christians from what is now the Czech Republic, celebrated Christmas early on. They established colonies in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Winston Salem and North Carolina, so by the early 1800s, Christmas was celebrated in those locals. The North and South were divided on the issue of the holiday. By the decade of 1830s, the celebration of the holiday soared in the southern states but remained uncelebrated in, for the most part, to the North. The first state to make Christmas a legal holiday was Alabama in 1836. Louisiana and Arkansas...
