Th. Herapath "Journey into danger"

The book I’ve chosen to read last summer was about adventures of the young fellow from France in Canada. It happened in the middle of the eighteenth century. The nephew of respectable French merchant was sent by his uncle far away from home for the fires time by ship with trade matters. The lad Robert de Soren also desired to see new places and to meet new faces. On the way back in November 1751 the ship stopped for short time in Quebec before the long transatlantic journey. Eighteen years old boy went into the woods and got lost. He didn’t return to his ship till the evening, and the ship sailed without him. Rob went just for a short walk, but had to spend few long winter months in Canadian wilderness. Was it interesting? No doubts! Why do I think so? I’ll try to explain.
So, all adventures of the young French began one cold day of November on his way back to France. The ship he was on dropped an anchor for a short time and captain let the fellow to the land. After walking for some while he came to the woods and plunged boldly in. He was in a place of story-book beauty and romance and had no idea of time. Unfortunately he slid and his one ankle was badly wrenched. November day was short, darkness fell soon, and Rob knew fear of autumn night as he had never known before. He was on a haunted territory of unknown men and dangerous animals.
He was floated by canoe up the St Lawrence River firstly to Montreal, where he was introduced to the Governor of New France as a nephew of well-known merchant who had been unluckily enough to lose his ship in Quebec and had fallen into trouble....
