Role of the Supervisor

      Once baby is born he gets him self into organisation - family. Then all human life is journey thru variety of different organisations: school, college, sport club, job, family, political party, etc. Because man spends most of his lifetime in organisations, it is very important to realise how to manage yourself and others. Every organisation has a purpose, and all members of set-up are working together to achieve that point. But is this possible without any help? No, it’s not. And therefore we have managers in every company. Managers, or supervisors, have important roles in a large number of areas, from education and medicine to more commercial environments. The role of supervisors has changed over the years. Author of this essay looks at the history and changes of management.
      Almost ninety years ago, Henry Fayol (1841-1925), defined management as “to forecast and plan, to organise, to command, to co-ordinate and to control”. He knew what he is talking about. French was working for one company for all his life and made that firm very successful. Because of his success, Fayol wrote a book, called “General and Industrial Management”, probably first writing in theory, definition and activities of management. Produced on his own experience, book was a good and practical manual.
      But book was published in 1916 and the author of this essay is in doubt. Can we use and readjust this statement now? Is the forecast, plan, organise and others valuables by Fayol still actual today in 21st century? Apart from that, father of management theory described aspects and activities of management and much to authors surprise it is still the key in management role.
