SUMMARY
This presentation would be about new-product design and it development. First off all I try give you some reason that you believe that new-product introduction is very important for company, especially in fast-changing industries, is a way of life and highly sophisticated approaches have been developed to introduce new products.
After them, I talk about strategies for new-product introduction: about Market-driven, Technology-driven and Interfunctional strategies. Few words about it.
Market-driven. In this way “You should make what you can sell”. In this case, new products are determined by the market with little regard to existing technology and operations processes.
Technology-driven. “You should sell what you can make”. Accordingly, new products should be derived from production technology, with little regard for the market. This view is dominated by vigorous use of technology and simplicity of operations changes
Interfunctional. In this view, new-product introduction is interfunctional in nature and requires cooperation among marketing, operations, engineering, and other functions. The new-product development process is neither market-driven nor technology-driven but determined by a coordinated effort between functions. If the interfunctional approach is used, the new-product design will fall somewhere between “making what you can sell” and “selling what you can make”.
After strategies for new-product introduction, I will talk about new-product development process, that would be about:
Idea generation. Market ideas are derived from customer needs. Identification of market needs can then lead to the development of new technologies and products to meet those needs. Market needs can also be identified by observing the performance of those needs, and other products. Many of the most successful products began as imitations or slight modifications of earlier products that had done well. Thus, exploitation of technology can also be a rich source of ideas for new products.
