Basic arrangement.
All my students have started to learn English not more than 3 years ago. English is their second foreign language; their first foreign language is German. The proficiency level of my students is from beginner (6A, 6C, 7A) to elementary (8A). Some students’ English is surprisingly good. They can speak on the spot, get involved into different discussions. Students are very active, they like both working in groups or individually. While working with them I used as much active teaching methods as it is possible. Eg. Discussions, different quizzes,games.
Although the number of strong students in each group is rather high, there are some that have problems. The most common problem is that they are not able to read. That’s why I used to give these students some extra reading tasks, so that they could improve their reading skills.
2. Teaching
While teaching any language, not only English it is important to develop 4 communicative skills.
During the practice I tried to use enough visual and audio aids, as it helps the students to learn faster and makes the learning interesting. As it is not always easy to integrate exercises that develop all 4 communicative skills into one lesson, sometimes I dealt with at least 2 communicative skills.
For more effective learning all classes except for 7A were divided into groups. The number of students in each group is about 15.That makes teaching much easier and each student can get enough attention. It is easier to move effectively between different stages of the lesson and deal effectively with students’ misbehavior when the group is small. It was much harder to work with 7A as they were not divided into groups and it is really difficult to control 22 teenagers.
