INTRODUCTION
Old English written records reflect the history and language of Old English. The Old English language probably has the biggest number of survived written records from all West Germanic languages. Therefore, the aim of this work is to describe the most distinct Old English literature works. The tasks by which this aim can be reached are as follows:
• To analyse the history of Old English Poetry and Prose
• To investigate biographies of several Old English writers
• To analyse the contents, characters, themes and structures of several Old English written records.
The paper consists of an Introduction, the Body, Conclusions, a Summary in Lithuania and a List of Reference.
Chapter One is The History of Old English Literature. Chapter Two, Old English Poetry, is subdivided into three subchapters, which deal with Old English poems. Chapter Three, Old English Prose, is subdivided into four subchapters, which deal with Old English prose works.
Analysis is grounded on the critical insights of Fulk, R.D. and Cain, Ch.M. A History of Old English Literature (2005), Albert C. Baugh and Thomas Cable A History of the English Language (1989), Albert C. Baugh A Literary History of England (2003), M. H. Abrams The Norton Anthology of English Literature (1974), T. A. Rastorguyeva A History of English (1983), and other scholars.
