Hand washing

Hand washing also known as hand hygiene, is the act of cleaning one's hands with soap (or equivalent materials) and water to remove viruses/bacteria/microorganisms, dirt, grease, or other harmful and unwanted substances stuck to the hands. Drying of the washed hands is part of the process as wet and moist hands are more easily recontaminated.
By washing your hands, you can keep away any unwanted germs and other microorganisms. This is important because germs can spread from other people or surfaces to your body and vice versa, causing various illnesses.
• After blowing one‘s nose, or coughing or sneezing;
• After touching an animal, animal feed or animal waste;
• After touching garbage;
• After coming from hospital;
• After the work;
• After any travel.
Theoretical background (1)
The research was conducted among two Universities (Cameroon, Bamenda) in 2019.
The research included 577 university students aged 17 to 29 or older.
A self-administered questionnaire which consists of four parts was distributed to collect general information from participants as well as their responses to basic questions on hand washing, hand washing knowledge, hand washing practices, and hand washing skills.
The study showed, that students aged 17-22 had significantly higher hand washing knowledge and practices scores when compared to students aged 29 or older. All together 56.7 percent of all questioned students wash their hands at least 6 times a day, with girls having a significantly higher proportion than boys.
