Economical, political and social problems in Lithuania

There has always been many economical social and political problems in Lithuania, but now, during the economical crisis period, the most important and primal of them are corruption, inflation, unemployment, poverty and pollution.
Sociological survey shows that citizens of Lithuania do not trust civil servants and accuse them of corruption. Most corrupted institutions in Lithuania are considered to be traffic police, political parties and courts. Also, it is noticed that the corruption prospers in universities, where students occasionaly have to give a bribe in order to pass an exam and hospitals. Experts of sociology claims, that the level of corruption hasn’t decreased since the last year but nevertheless, the number of people willing to participate in anti-corruption movements has increased. One of that kind of organisations is ‘Transparency International’ which is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption.
Other very important problem is inflation. the Inflation rate in Lithuania in 2009 is about 11% and in comparison with the year 2007, when it was about 5 %, is by 6% higher. It means, that the price level rises and people can buy fewer goods and services for the same amount of money. Furthermore, due to the high inflation rate of 2006, Lithuania was not able to adopt Euro and it is not likely to adopt it until 2013.
