How desirable and feasible would it be to adopt a law allowing heterosexual and same-sex partnerships in Lithuania

introduced by the “Freedom Party” firstly it was declined by the state parliament. Furthermore, a
recent survey made by Lithuanian National Radio and Television shows that only 30% would agree
with this law and the rest would not. The question is if this law is possible to become a reality and
what benefits it would bring.
Firstly same-sex partnership law needs to be accredited to increase the happiness index of
Lithuania and to decrease the depression rates. In Lithuania, there is a significant suicide issue and
depression is directly linked to it. The highest suicide rates in the European Union have typically
been observed in Lithuania it as claimed by The Depression Scorecard project which analyses
national-level performance in key aspects of policy, delivery and care for people with depression.
Indeed one of the reasons for that is the feeling of inequality. The phenomenon of unequally
distributing resources and opportunities among the people that make up a society is referred to as
inequality. One of the opportunities that are inequal is exactly prohibition of same-sex partnerships
and general hate for homophobic people. Being equal to the rest of society has a direct influence on
the well-being of a person. In the study made by Ogolsky, B. G., Monk, J. K., Rice, T. M., &
Oswald, R. F. (2019) “Personal well-being across the transition to marriage equality: A longitudinal
analysis”. Data were gathered over a long period of time as marriage equality became a reality.
Prior to this, those in same-sex (as opposed to different-sex) relationships experienced greater levels
of stigma, psychological discomfort, and less family support. Married people had better levels of
life satisfaction and support from their families (vs. not married). Those who lived in states that
recognized same-sex marriage had reduced levels of stigma and stress, as well as better levels of
