The Diagram above has been used to identify the gap within the Chichester market and find a new product/service opportunity. As we can see there is no barrier to entry as there is no currently any bars or brassieres in Chichester that offer live music, therefore jazz and soul sounds; however there is still some competition arising from the venues such as Woodies, Slug & Lettuce that target the same age markets.
We have carried out a primary research; therefore created questionnaires in order to find out about the most popular venues in Chichester and what specific bar features attract a new customer and what keeps loyal an existing one.
We have received response from about 70 local people between ages 21-50. The final results showed that 47% of audience have been missing live music and wished for a trendy with a longer than usual operating hour’s venue to be introduced into the market. To confirm our choice of music, nearly 75% of respondents admitted to enjoy jazz& blues sounds.
2. Premises and Planning permission
As previously the premises were occupied by Tescos Stores Ltd. operations, which as a supermarket uses class A1 building permission issued for shops, which don’t predominately sell hot food products, class A3 (food and drink) planning permission is required in order to meet the Town and Country Planning Order 1987 regulations and therefore to be able to change an existing building into the bar/ restaurant venue.
Before making an application the following institutions should be consulted:
• The Environment Agency (potential water, sewerage problems).
• The Highway Authority/ County Council (road safety and traffic issues)
• The Health and Safety Executive
