Australia's geography

“I tell you that this is the strangest place in the world. It’s rise, nature, climate, is astonishing scientists all over the world. Imagine a continent whereof edges like a giant ring has firstly risen out of the sea.
The acient greeks were thinking about the existance of Australia thousands of years ago. They noticed that symmetry is everywhere in nature, most of the things are made of even parts. So they beleaved that one more continent should be somewhere in the south. Greeks called that continent “Terra Australis“ it means south land. This land was shown in the maps to the south of Indian ocean.
The first european who saw the shores of Australia was the dutchman sailor Viliam Janson. In 1605 he landed on the flat and sandy shore of Keip Jork. Almost at the same time spanish sailor Luji Tor Svam through the chanell between Australia and New Guinea. After some time the chanel was called by the name of Luji Tor.
In the first half of 17 century dutchmen Knew all the shores of Australia from the north to southwest. The new continent was called New Holland and thought to be a part of Southland. The Holland sailor Abel Tasman swam around Australia and proved that this is a separate continent. While swiming A. Tasman haven‘t saw the east shores of Australia but he had found New Zeland which was thought to be a part of south land. James Kuk was the man who brought lot of news in to the researches of Australia. In one of his journeys in 1770 he discovered and researched the east side of Australia. After this journey the size of this continent was set. Also it was finaly proved that this is a separate continent.
