Introduction
Tourism is a multidimensional and multipurpose economic activity, with a strong social dimension. In 1991 International Tourism Organization (WTO) has developed the definition of tourism, where tourism is defined as the total tavel, tour types, when a person leaves his normal place of work more than one day and less than 12 months and when the trip is not recruited, paid activity. Tourism takes holidays (working holidays, short weekend trips or day-trips), business travel, friends and relitives attendence as well as trips related to science, sports, health or religion. The tourism includes human movement from one counrty to another. In addition, it includes the country’s population recreation and sporting activities in their populated area. Both groups used the same natural and economic resources.
Rural tourism – one of the most recent business activity in Lithuania but has resulted to let deep roots in the country recreation field, has accumulated wealth of experience acquired distinctive tradtions. Usually, a city resident wants to get out from the urban noise, dust so that he goes to the village: in order to feel the calm of the nature. This type of tourists is becoming popular extremely fastly and a rural tourism gives them the opportunity that is needed. In 2003 October 15th Lithuania has joined the World Tourism Organization. Joining the tourism organisation, which officialy recorded 142 states, in our country increased progress in this business. This seems as a opportuniy for our country to realise itself. Even thouhg rural tourism is developed quite well it is believed that in the near future thei will be much more entertainment and leisure services.
