Tourism planning: Dudley

Nowadays one of the most important and fastest growing social and economic sectors is tourism. And to make it pleasing for both demanders and suppliers it has to be planned carefully, because “if tourism is allowed to grow willy-nilly, it may well be seen as blight and the tourists will be unwelcome” (Gunn, vii).
Therefore, as states Murphy “planning is concerned with anticipating and regulating change in a system, to promote orderly development so as to increase the social, economic and environmental benefits of the development process” (Hill, p.11).
In Appendix one is shows how functioning tourism systems. The system can help to understand of ideology of tourism and in which way tourism functions.
According to Gunn (1988, p 69) says, that “The functioning tourism system, the heart of all tourism development and operation, consists primarily of a demand side and supply side. The four components of the supply or “plant” side could be described as: transportation, attractions, services, and information∕ promotion”.
The theme of the assignment is to look at the Borough of Dudley from a potential customer view. It is important to make an observation about Dudley’s urban development and tourism within urban environment and set out the market segment group which could be the potential visitors and customers in this area. It is also significant to look at Dudley’s government long and short term goals and offer new ideas that could help to attract the chosen target group and make their stay as attractive as possible.
According to writer was a good idea:” to restore as an Urban Heritage Park, and since the conversion of its buildings into museums, offices and shops, it has employed huge commercial success as an unusual tourist destination”.
