Introduction
The aim of this short essay is to characterize one of the most discussed contemporary phenomenons all over the world – globalization, and its impact on national identity. I also pay my attention to the term globalization (Chapter: The term globalization), the main threat of globalization for the future (Chapter: Globalization as a threat) and history of globalization as well (Chapter: Short history of globalization). Furthermore, in the next chapter, I describe how globalization influences and forms the national identity as well as the most basic characterizations of the national identity (Chapter: Globalization and national identity). In the last part of this essay I devote to antiglobalization movement in the last few years, its ideology and goals (Chapter: The antiglobalization movement).
The term globalization
In recent years there has been many debates about globalization. On this term is centered heightened interest in cosmopolitan culture. Term is widely applied to many different aspects of contemporary life, it can signify so many things that it has become largery devoid of meaning, except perhaps for one thing: it is meaningful for this very variety of expression and superabundance of content. Globalization is often said to begin with the beginnings of the impact of science and technology – the speed of communication through satellite transmission, the explosive increase in computer speed, capacity and availability to consumers and the corresponding increase in content of the Internet archive. Information technology and communication is what makes international electronic finance possible and it also expands of an American-led cultural revolution, bringing to remote corners of the world the consumer products and messages of pop-culture: Coca-Cola, McDonald‘s, MTV, CNN, Microsoft ..
