National holidays and calendar feast days of Lithuania

All countries of the world celebrate nationals holidays. The most important holiday – Independence Day. This Day is celebrated on February 16th.
Armed forces day is very nice holiday. The May holiday is more closely associated with associated soldiers who have died or perished in the line of duty, visiting and decorating their graves.Yet this holiday is slowly turning into an occasion to remember all the dead.
Some merrier than nationals holidays are Calendar Feast Days.
The last day before the start of Lent is called Shrove Tuesday. The main dish for Srove Tuesday are pancakes. The costumed revelers are an integral part of the Shrove Tuesday Festivities. Favorite costumes used were beggars, gypsies and Jews, devils, withes…On Shrove Tuesday ‘More’ is added to the bonfire and burned.
The Sunday before Easter is called Palm Sunday. It commemorates Crist’s entry into Jerusalem and is celebrated by all Christianity. That Sunday, plant branches (palms or others), called ‘verba’ in Lithuania, are blessed in churches.
The word Easter has been borrowed from Byelorussian and means ‘important day’. Easter is not only the feast of Crist’s Resurrection, but also nature’s awakening from winter’s sleep. On Easter necessary to eat well and to safety, because of the feast all through Lent. The main dish for Easter is egg.
The feast of St. John was the most popular summer festival. This is midsummer feast. That day marked the year’s shortest night and longest day. St. John was filled with magic and secrets. One magic event takes place on St. John night: the fern blooms. The fern blossom is miraculous.
