The aim of this report is to compare different explanations of diversity of organizations in different textbooks written by separate authors and after comparison of different statements formulate my own opinion.
To begin with it is important to say that in various textbooks the diversity of organizations is different and the authors explain different classifications of organizations-they classify organizations by Size of the organization;Technology in the organization;National cultures in the organization;Types of people- character types in the organization and others.
First of all I want to show the classification of organizations by identifying people in the organization-corporate types-character types.
It is explained in the textbook Maccoby,The Gamesman.
Maccoby made a socio-psychoanalytic study of 250 corporate managers in American organizations. He came up with four character types which can be found in different combinations.
1 The Jungle Fighter. The jungle fighter needs power. He sees life as a battle for survival in which winners destroy losers. At his best he is a lion, protective towards his 'family' and ruthless to his competitors. However, his domineering attitude upsets independent subordinates and his obsession with defence can create unnecessary enemies.
2 The Company Man. This kind of person is oriented to the institution, concerned with the human side of the company and committed to maintaining corporate integrity. He can turn into a senseless careerist, obsessed with organizational politics, but at his best he can sustain an atmosphere of discipline and service. He is perhaps too conservative to lead an innovative organization.
3 The Gamesman. The gamesman likes to take calculated risks and is fascinated by techniques, new methods and problems. He thrives on competition and can communicate his enthusiasm to his group. He is a team player who looks for glory rather than riches. At extremes he can live in a fantasy world, finding games and...
