 Introduction
The basic idea of this assignment is to analyze how children’s literature can help to develop children’s perceptions about the world they live in, built up their personality and find out why fiction is so important from the early stage of children’s development.
• Children’s literature as a part of culture
Stories for children were told and later written in almost every country and culture all over the world. Fairy-tales and folklore take very important place in every country. Very often in fairy tales authors try to explain certain culture questions, how things in life and nature became the way that they are, for example things like how the tiger got it’s stripes (“How tiger got his stripes”- a folktale from Vietnam adapted by Rob Cleveland). How the sun got to the sky? How the sun became brighter than the moon? (“Golden tales” – myths, legends and folktales from Latin America by Lulu Delacre) and just about any question that ordinary child can become interested in. Imagination and creativity are usual ways to deal with these questions. Though these creative answers can be not so informative since the stories are based on imagination rather than the fact, for children creativity development is as important as knowing facts.
 Purpose of children’s literature
Reading fiction can be both useful and enjoyable. It helps to transit into different world – world of fantasy and illusion, where good wins against evil, where animals become conscious creatures and where child can identify himself as a character and become powerful, famous, rich or beautiful. The fiction world seems more interesting to little readers because it is more dramatic, colourful and congenial.
