Ch. Dickens "The Old Curiosity Shop"

 Charles Dickens was driven to achieve success from the days of his boyhood. With little formal education, he taught himself, worked furiously at everything he undertook and became famous as a writer in his mid-twenties. The author wrote a lot of famous novels and one of them was “The Old Curiosity Shop”.
“The Old Curiosity Shop” centres around a little girl Nell and her grandfather’s search throughout the roads, fields, villages and towns of England for a home where they can live happily and with ease.
Nell is a very beautiful child with a kind and loving heart. She lives with her grandfather in the old curiosity shop.
In Dickens day, a curiosity shop was an institution where people would go to obtain prized or antique gift. The girl is the only person whom the old man really loves. She reminds him his dead wife and daughter.
But the Grandfather has an addictive gambling problem, and looses the money needed to keep the shop. He is so heavily overtaken by the idea of gambling that when he looses all his money he borrows more from Mr. Quilp. Daniel Quilp gives him it because he thinks that the old man is rich and his money will return to him in bigger amount. But, at length, he discovers that, indeed, Nelly’s grandfather is a poor man. After discovering such a pity fact, he seizes the old man’s furniture and turns him out of doors. Nelly and the old man are forced to flee to avoid a nasty, ugly dwarf, Quilp.
The novel spellbinds readers with both whole–souled tenderness to the state of a homeless thirteen year-old girl, Nell Trent, and her aged Grandfather, as they range through the countryside of England, keeping one step ahead of the evil dwarf, Daniel Quilp. That journey leads them both...
