William Golding ’’The Lord of the Flies’’ analysis

William Golding who lived in the twentieth century was an English novelist, playwright, and also a poet. During World War II, Golding joined the Royal Navy. Golding also participated in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day, commanding a landing ship that fired salvoes of rockets onto the beaches.
Moreover, William Golding’s writing style is usually based on classical literature, Christian symbolism and mythology and all his novels are different from each other. There is no repetitive plot or story however all of them are mostly with closed settings. Golding's writings are full of descriptions, characterisations and symbolisms, and ‘’Lord of the Flies’’ prove this fact perfectly. A running theme in William Golding's works is that man is savage at heart, always ultimately reverting back to an evil and primitive nature.

• The point of view
The biggest part of the whole story is based on the Ralph’s point of view. However, there were some episodes where we can find the Simon’s, Piggy’s and Jack’s point of view, though these are not the most important parts.
• The narration
The type of narration is chronological. The actions are presented from the beginning to the end. In other words, from the time the school boys appears in the unknown island, to the time when they are saved by the crew of a British warship.
• The structure
The structure is conventional, because we can find all of the traditional parts (the exposition, the rising action, the climax, the falling action and the resolution).
Starting from the exposition, in the first paragraph in the book we can already find some sentences that talk about the appearance of the main character Ralph (e.g. Though he had taken off his school sweater and trailed it now from one hand, his grey shirt stuck to him and...
