Introduction
A language is a living substance, which evolves under the influence of different factors. Being very flexible the English language constantly enriches its vocabulary with the words invented by the language speakers, new phrases, proverbs and sayings used in written or spoken register, formal or informal speech.
The object of this work is to analyse and give examples of the word love expression in the various spheres of the spoken register in English. Principally, the usage of the British National Corpus (BNC) was of the great importance while analysing the the expressions of the word love in the spoken register; also various dictionaries were needful while gathering various information about the word love; different idioms, sayings and slang samples will be presented in this course paper.
The aim of this is to explore the usage of the expression of the word love. To achieve this aim the following objectives have been set:
1. To give theoretical background of the semantics of the word love;
2. To explore its usage in spoken register in English;
3. To present the examples of its participation in the English idioms, sayings etc.
The scope of the work contains of several parts. The first part provides a brief theoretical overview of the semantics of the word love, its origin and usage. The second part deals with the concept of love in spoken register while using material from BCN which includes a 100 million word collection of samples of written and spoken language from a wide range of sources; the spoken part (10%) consists of orthographic transcriptions of unscripted informal conversations ( recorded by volunteers selected from different age, region, religion, social class and gender ) and spoken language collected in different contexts.
