An Analysis of a Survey on Music Knowlage

The purpose of this of this report is to present students knowlage about music and musicians. The survey was conducted among ten fourth graders, who attendo Algirdas music school and here are the results.

The first two questions were about periods of music. Despite of this topic being taught for four years (from first to fourth grade), asked about Beethovens fame during periods of music, only the minority of respondents said that Beethoven was best known during the Classical and Romantic eras. On the other hand, almost everyone identified in which period Johann Sbastain Back played.

As far as my first and second questions were about periods in which musicians lived, the following questions were associated with music pieces and their composers. Surprisingly, asked about the composer of the „Symphony No.9“ just under half of the students knew it was Beethoven, although this is a well – known piece in music history. Given the question about the composer of „Turkish March“ all of the respondeds were able to answer easily.
