Representation of the Devil in Faust and the Bible

According to western literature, Devil has been present through all stages of evolution. The story of the controversy between good and evil has existed since the beginning of humankind. It is interesting to follow different representations of the Devil through history. Western literature books and plays such as Paradise Lost by Joh Milton, and Paradise Regained, and The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri shows the exact representation of the Devil. Perhaps the fascinating representation of Satan in literature is in the book Faust by Johan Wolfgang Goethe, based on the urban legend of the 15th-century magician who lived in Northern Germany. This paper will compare and contrast the representation of the Devil in Faust and the Bible, drawing relevant illustrations to support each case. The paradigm of Satan's character has changed as it has responded to the spirit of various periods in human history.
In Goethe's Prologue in Heaven, we see the Lord and all the inhabitants of Heaven assembled. Three angels, Raphael, Gabriel, and Michael, are seen celebrating the mysterious splendor of the Lord's nature which is excellent for the comprehension of the angels. They all step forward and sing praises of the perfection and omnipotence of God, and that is when Mephistopheles (Mephisto, the Devil) enters. Mephistopheles cannot recite or imitate the songs of the angels in praise of God because he lacks their skill and understanding. He speculates that the Heavenly crew will revile any attempt of solid emotion on his side.
Moreover, Mephisto has seen the unhappy nature of humanity and all the troubles that befall him. He tells God that it would have been better if humans did not taste the glimpse of Heaven's glory because it has made them cruel and bestial.
