Reading strategies

1 step: before reading you should overview the passage not longer than 3 minutes. It means, that you should understand about what is text, understand the topic and writer’s purpose – what does writer want to explain or express in her/his article.
2 step: in order to understand the main idea of all text you should comprehend the main idea of every paragraph. It will be better to underline the most essential sentences (usually it is one sentence) in each paragraph.
3 step: relationships between words and phrases increase reading effectiveness. Recognizing these relationships make your reading more explicative. Linking words also are important in case if, they are informative otherwise they will confuse you.
4 step: There are situations, when text consists of diagrams, tables and other non-liner texts. Usually you can use these non-liner texts to understand the written text. On the other hand, you can translate diagram or other type of non-liner text into words. In order to do that you have to understand does diagram represent, what do vertical and horizontal axes show. By combining this information you will be able to understand the main idea of the non-liner texts.
5 step: it is well known fact, that knowing how information is organizes helps you read more effectively. There are several methods how information can be organized. For example, text can be grouped as advantages/disadvantages, arguments against and for, in order to describe process writer can describe all steps in the order in which they occur and so on.
6 step: Reader should understand that the same things (words) can be explained...
