Key Words
• Physical activity (referred to as PA) – any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy expenditure. Can be divided into exercise and NEAT.
• Exercise – has 3 characteristics: 1) structured and repetitive bodily movements; 2) not following a conservative energy consumption approach; 3) intended to improve or maintain physical fitness.
• Nonexercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) – all energy expenditure excluding sleeping, eating, and activity.
• Parkinson’s disease (referred to as PD) – is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized primarily by loss of dopamine neurons. People with PD may experience tremor, mainly at rest, limb rigidity, gait and balance problems. (movementdisorders.org)
• Physical function – the ability to carry out activities that involve bodily movement, ranging from basic self care tasks to social activities, that require a combination of skills
• Supercompensation – described as the adaptive response following a controlled application of stress on the body and its subsequent regeneration.
• FITT principle – frequency, intensity, type and time generated when creating clinical exercise program.
