My name is Khan review

I’ve recently discovered this engaging movie and watched it for the very first time. I’ve found this foreign drama well-made and impactful, even though I don’t watch Indian movies that often, because I find most of their stories dull and overdramatized. But this time I must congratulate director Karan Johar and screenwriter Shibani Bothija for unfolding the subtle themes of neurological illnesses and worldwide problems, especially terrorism, while also offering some appealing drama and a few laughs to the viewer.
The story itself begins with Rizwan Khan, who is diagnosed with having the Asperger’s syndrome. Rizwan is a Muslim, who travels to San Francisco to live with his brother Zakir. Khan works as a product seller there and later meets the Indian woman, who has a son named Reese. Khan marries her and starts a happy life. But the happiness ends where the September attacks starts. Americans’ view on Muslim people change for the worse as they unconsciously start blaming each one of them for the attacks. Even Reese’s friend abandons him and the kid later dies by the hands of American kids filled with anger for Reese’s last name. Reese’s mother exploits her grief onto Khan who later swears to meet the president of the United States to tell him he’s not a terrorist.
As I’ve mentioned this movie starts with Rizwan Khan, who from the very beginning is an extremely interesting character, due to his mental disease. The movie shows us how difficult and tragic the life of a person with such an illness might be and how can a man like that never make a proper connection with the society.
