An overview of the solar system

Where we live and why we live here? There were many similar questions in all civilizations, because all wanted to know the formation of the Earth, the planet we live in. And there were many hypotheses about it. Ancient civilizations had epic stories concerning the creation of cosmos. These creation stories often have similar features: the Universe was created from a dark void, and then shaped and ordered. Another common feature is that whatever was "home" for the particular culture was assumed to the center of cosmos. Many scientists had explored sky and all celestial bodies, till there was discovered that the Earth is one component of a huge system, we call solar system.
Our solar system consists of the star we call the Sun, the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. It includes the satellites of the planets, numerous comets, asteroids, and meteoroids and the interplanetary medium. The Sun is the richest source of electromagnetic energy (mostly in the form of heat and light) in the solar system. As it is known this source is our nearest star that is why we can see it so big and bright. The Sun is in the middle of the solar system, so all planets and other heavenly bodies go around it. Basically, it is the engine of our system, and there are no possibilities to survive without it. But first, it was thought that our planet, the Earth, is in the centre of the universe. And only four ages ago this opinion was denied by scientist Copernicus. We call his discovery a heliocentric system. Copernicus had made a very important discovery for all humanity and since then modern astronomy began. All other scientists followed this way.
