American and Lithuanian culture comparison

First of all – America is a huge country. It is overwhelming for me to
understand how enormous America is. The country of Lithuania can fit in the
size of one of America’s States. Not only is the land vast, but the
buildings are taller than any building in Lithuania and there are more
people living in New York City than there are people in the entire country
of Lithuania.
Lithuania is a small country, next the Baltic Sea. It borders the countries
of Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Russia. For the last hundred years, much of
Lithuania's culture has been in hiding. Different countries have occupied
Lithuania over a long period of time.. The occupiers tried to change some
or all of the traditions and culture of Lithuania. But Lithuanians did not
give up their culture. Today, after many years of living under another
countries rules Lithuanians enjoy the freedom to practice their own unique
ways.
In this assignment I will compare people and communications, educations
systems, health care, food and eating habits, socializing.
People and communication.
American people and Lithuanian people are all generally nice and
friendly. Since I arrived here, I have had to use English and faced a
completely new environment. Almost all Americans whom I have met are willing
to help; they try to answer all my questions and explain things patiently to
me. I tihink, Americans are very nice people. Lithuanians are thought of
as very kind and outgoing people too. Generally, Lithuanians place more
importance on emotion than on thought. This sometimes makes Lithuanians seem
too carefree. Partly because emotions is so important, Lithuanians have
fought for the right to express themselves.
On the other hand, I think many Americans are not educated about different
cultures, and sometimes appear naive about anything outside of America. They
have no sense of what my Lithuania is like. I have had Americans ask me if
we have highways in Lithuania. This is crazy! I think...
