We expect too much from our heroes. Political leaders

Leadership is a characteristic that can be detected in the vast majority of the animal kingdom. When it comes to birds, the leader navigates the flock when flying, while the captain’s of lions role is to protect his pack of lionesses and cubs. Humankind is not an exception when it comes to having a leader. The first signs of leadership in human nature can be detected as early as in the Paleolithic period. These examples from nature lead us to a conclusion that one of the main traits of a community is having a commander. Therefore, in today’s era, every single sovereign state cannot function properly without a political leader. Since these people are in charge of making the most important decisions of a state, they are often seen as powerful and are respected by the general public. Some people even idealize them like heroes. However, being a hero is not as alluring as it may seem. Unfortunately, sometimes due to certain reasons the leaders seem to fail to fulfill their hero duties. In today’s speech I’d like to talk about those reasons and explain the cases when by expecting too much from their heroes, people end up being disappointed.
A lot of the time the disappointment of citizens is caused by their high expectations. People often have unrealistic standards of how a political leader should act and even forget that they’re human just like us. It’s also important to note that since everyone has a different opinion, their criteria of a good leader can differ as well and at the end of the day it’s impossible for a leader to meet all variations of expectations.
