The Jamaican economy

Jamaica is a small Caribbean constitutional parliamentary democracy polity [[total: 10,991; sq km land: 10,831 sq km; water: 160 sq km], it is more than six times smaller than Lithuania], just in south of Cuba. Its capital is Kingston where lives almost one-third of the whole [2,713,130 (July 2004)] Jamaica’s population. National languages are English and some patois English.
Jamaica’s coastline [as well as perimeter] is a little above one kilometre. The land is in tropical climate zone that means there is hot and humid. Terrain in there is mostly mountains with narrow and discontinuous coastal plain near seas. The highest mountain is Blue Mountain Peak 2,256 m. However, workings of man-kind as heavy rates of deforestation, coastal waters polluted by industrial waste, sewage, and oil spills, damage to coral reefs, vehicle emissions polluted air in Kingston spoils the beautiful Jamaica’s environment. To crown it all hurricanes are expected [especially July to November].
Yet Jamaica’s population may not look big but you have to consider that its density is above 250 citizens per one square kilometre [in Lithuania -55 persons per km2] and growth rate there is 2/3% [in Lithuania - -1/3%]. However, you must keep in view that migration rate in Jamaica is a bit behind 5/1000 citizens. Still the most shocking fact is Jamaicans’ median age – around 27 years old when median Lithuanian is ten years older [2004 est.] while life expectancy at birth is 76 year and 69 years in Lithuania.
Jamaica has separated from UK in August 6, 1962 but its Constitution generally based on English common law and their chief of state is Queen ELIZABETH II [since 6 February 1952], represented by Governor General Sir Howard Felix COOKE [since 1 August 1991].
