Superintelligent AI – Threat or an Opportunity?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, unlike the natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals, which involves consciousness and emotionality. Some AI technologies have been around for more than 50 years, but advances in computing power, the availability of enormous quantities of data and new algorithms have led to major AI breakthroughs in recent years. Nowadays, AI is already present in our everyday lives – from virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa to smart homes, cities and infrastructure. Since AI is embodied almost everywhere and running into it is inevitable, it is getting even smarter and stronger than ever before but what if AI much smarter than any living being on the planet - a Superintelligent AI was created? Because of how theoretical this technology is, there is little to no information on it, but the results of this research are surprising. The aim of this work is to get a clearer understanding on what superintelligence or AGI is and whether such invention would be a threat to the humanity or an opportunity for a better life.
Superintelligence and Superintelligent AI is an uncharted territory for scientists all around the world. For scientists, it is a dangerous toy to be played with, for others – a science fiction dream or even a nightmare. It is relatively a new concept and this paper analyses if Superintelligent AI would be a threat or an opportunity. This paper presents the results of a quantitative non-numerical analysis to get a clearer picture of what this technology is and what it can bring us. 5 papers were analysed, and 14 words and their most common word combinations in those texts were selected.
