INTRODUCTION
One of the most famous women writers of the nineteenth century was Charlotte Bronte. She had a rich fantasy and this helped her to create many wonderful and exciting novels. Bronte used her experience and imagination as source of material for her books. Nowadays it is difficult to understand the world that Charlotte Bronte was a part of because twenty- first century reader can hardly imagine the world where women had no rights, where divorce was almost the unthinkable, and where mental health disorders were treated as “insanity” and “madness”. In the Bronte’s world mad people were locked in the asylums in which they usually received no mental treatment. All these and many more problems of Victorian society are displayed in the Bronte’s novels. (Teachman 2001: 2-6)
The most successful work of Charlotte Bronte, which deals with many issues of the nineteenth century, is Jane Eyre published in 1847. Charlotte Bronte first published the book as Jane Eyre: An Autobiography under the pseudonym Currer Bell. The novel was an immediate critical and popular success, it became a bestseller. The reviewer for the Atlas wrote:
This is not merely a work of great promise; it is one of absolute performance. It is one of the most powerful domestic romances which have been published for many years. It has little or nothing of the old conventional stamp upon it ... but it is full of youthful vigour, of freshness and originality, of nervous diction and concentrated interest.
