We will start our presentation with the definition of e-waste. Then, we will move on to the impacts of it and then we will talk about recycling. Finally, we will finish our presentation with some facts.
Nowadays we live in a century of emerging tech. Rapid changes in technology, changes in media and falling prices have resulted fast-growing excess of electronic waste around the globe.
E-waste or electronic waste is created when an electronic product is discarded after the end of its useful life. The rapid expansion of technology means that a very large amount of e-waste is created every minute. Although e-waste contains complex combinations of highly toxic substances that could be dangerous to health and the environment, many of the products also contain recoverable precious materials, making it a different kind of waste compared with traditional waste.
Although electronics constitute necessary part of everyday life, their hazardous effects on the environment cannot be underestimated. The emission of fumes, gases, and particulate matter into the air, the discharge of liquid waste into water and drainage systems, and the disposal of hazardous wastes contribute to environmental degradation. There are a number of specific ways in which e-waste recycling can be damaging to the environment. Burning to recover metal from wires and cables leads to emission of dioxins, causing air pollution. During the recycling process, toxic chemicals that have no economic value are simply dumped. The toxic wastewater is poured into underground and seriously affects the local groundwater quality, thereby making the water unusable for human or agricultural purposes.
Improper handling of e-waste can affect human health. A growing body of clinical evidence has led to increased concern about the potential threat of e-waste to human health, especially in developing countries such as India and China. Recycling e-waste materials by using primitive methods expose the...
