Clock time became a form of currency from something that was passed to something that was spent. Тhe value of the time for which the employer is paying the worker.
Communication – the dynamic, ongoing process and negotiating meanings through international symbolic practices, incl. metaphor, rituals, stories, dress and space.
Organizational communication – the process of creating and negotiating collective, coordinated systems of practices oriented toward the achievement of organizational goals.
Organization comes into being when 1) there are personal able to communicate with each other, 2) who are willing to contribute to action 3) to accomplish a common purpose.
Control might be:
• Direct control – is to direct the employees and then monitor their behaviour to make sure they are performing adequately. Disadvantage: supervisors are not always able to directly control worker productivity. Most coercive – telling someone exactly what to do.
• Technological control – the implementation of various forms of organizational technology to control worker productivity (includes McDonalds or fast check-in screens as well as electronic surveillance – employees never know when they are being monitored though they always behave at a times as if they are under surveillance – panopticism.)
• Bureaucratic control – common in Western democratic societies. System of rules, structures, job description, merit systems. Tend to promote taken for granted way of behaving.
• Ideological control – the corporate development of a system values, beliefs, and meanings with which employees are expected identify strongly. Requires little direct supervision of employees. Focuses of values, meanings, emotions connected to work. Disadvantage: can be oppressive, being a “team” or “family”.
• Biocratic control – life itself that companies are attempting to capture. Employees are the most micro-managed of all time. The least coercive.
