In this day and age, the bystander effect, miscarriage in justice, and loyalty to society versus loyalty to a friend are certainly some of the most significant problems we are currently facing. Today I would like to discuss these issues.

Firstly, let’s take a look at the bystander effect. It’s a term used to describe people’s tendency to take no action in an emergency situation when there are other individuals nearby. People in this case feels discouraged to help, especially because they are scared of making an embarrassing mistake, so they just decide to go with the flow and do nothing. In theory, the more people there are present, the less likely it is that one of them will intervene. This is because each person experiences what psychologists call a “diffusion of responsibility”. If an individual believes that another person will step in, he chooses to do nothing because he feels the lack of responsibility. So, as a result, they decide to turn a blind eye on a serious problem or bury their heads in the sand. Clearly, the bystander effect is a major issue in our society and it tends to influence every aspect of our lives. Ultimately, it’s in our power to make a difference by changing our attitudes and trying to be less self-centered people.
