Learning Styles in Preschool Education

Human beings are born to learn. During the last few decades, developmental science has exploded with discoveries of how, specifically, learning happens. This provides us with an unprecedented window into children′s minds: how and when they begin to think, perceive, understand, and apply knowledge. Knowing children don’t all learn the same way is important when they begin school. Preschool learning is a whole new world where children are asked to absorb many new concepts – which they often cannot do unless it’s shown in a way they understand. This is where various learning styles come in.
In this paper I am going to discuss about how children learn and introduce various viable learning styles for young children in preschool education. A learning style is the way in which children explore and process new information. To be sure all young children learn through hands- on experiences and play, but if you watch closely there are certain behavioral clues and preferences that will give you an idea of his or her preferred learning style. Understanding different learning styles will help you present information in a way that promotes your child’s strengths.
The goal of the paper is to get acquainted with learning styles in preschool education.
Children differ from adult learners in many ways, but there are also surprising commonalities across learners of all ages. In this chapter we provide some insights into children as learners. A study of young children fulfills two purposes: it illustrates the strengths and weaknesses of the learners who populate the schools, and it offers a window into the development of learning that cannot be seen if one considers only well-established learning patterns and expertise.
