Introduction
Traps - mechanical capturing means, which are created to kill or restrain wild animals.
Trapping - one of the first hunting methods. It is still widely used at present and justified at some exceptional circumstances like public health and safety or conservation of some species. Most often animals are trapped for their fur, skin or meat and it is widely criticized about its inhumanity, because usually it causes great suffering to animals. It raises a lot of issues: do animals have rights and do there are enough effective international legal instruments protecting them?
This is a complicated dilemma, because it is a confrontation of two very different parties, with its own attitudes and opinions. These are; (1) major industrial bodies in which activity trapping of animals is essential, (2) animal rights activists. Usually the first party is much more powerful than later, because its activity is closely related with high income, for instance fur trade, so it is obvious that its representatives are more interested in economical benefit and not in animal welfare. The number of persons who care about animal rights is much smaller, so it is very difficult for them to prove their truth.
In European Union (EU) animal welfare is now at the global attention. Recently conducted researches in EU about animal protection show that most European citizens are concerned to enhance animal welfare and human treatment.
