Global warming on Earth

The Earth`s average temperature is based on daily measurements taken at several thousand land-based meteorological stations around the world, as well as data from weather balloons, orbiting satellites, transoceanic ships, and hundreds of sea-surface buoys with temperature senders. The IPCC report projected a 1 to 3,5 C increase in global temperature by the year 2100, although the warming will probably not be uniform from region the 21st century than it has been for hundreds of thousands of years. Almost all climate experts agree with the IPCC`s assessment that the warming trend has already begun and will continue throughout the 21st century. As a result of these uncertainties about global warming, many people, including policy-markers, are confused about what should be done.
The Causes of Global Warming. Burning og carbon-containing fossil fuels-coal, oil, and natural gas – accounts for most human-made carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is also released by land conversion, such as when tracts of tropical forests are logged or burned. The levels of the other trace gases associated with global warming are also increasing. Nitrous oxide is also produced by various industrial processes and by the use of fertilizers. Decomposition of carbon-containing organic material by anaerobic bacteria in moist places as sanitary landfills and the intestinal tracts of cattle and other large animals is a major source of methane. Global warming occurs because these trace gases absorb infrared radiation – that is, heat – in the atmosphere. Some forms of the heat from the lower atmosphere is transferred to the ocean and raises its temperature as well. However, as human activities increased the atmospheric concentration of these gases, the atmosphere and ocean may continue to warm-up, and the overall global temperature will rise.
