L. Overall I’m fine, but when I was walking to meet you, I saw a forest near by getting cut down.
L. I am shocked to my core! Before the work had started, the landscape was so beautiful and it was such a nice place to take a walk or spend time with friends and family. To be close to nature in general.
B. YEAH, as my grandfather used to say - don’t cut a tree, don’t cut a life. But they’re probably cutting down the forest to make room for new residences.
L. Trees face a lot of challenges. These include the effects of a changing climate, worsening fire seasons, and epidemics of forest pests and diseases. The challenges also include lack of capacity to keep our forests healthy and resilient. Caring for forests takes work. What’s more - trees are cut down so their wood can be burned or used to make things, such as buildings, furniture, or paper.
B. That’s terrible! How can we protect the forests?
L. I think we have to protest. The government is more likely to listen if larger group of people show up! We could also plant some trees in our back yards. The more the better. Speaking about it, I heard that tree’s “make oxygen”. Could you tell me more about it?
B. Yes! Trees produce the oxygen we breathe and are responsible for absorbing the CO2 we emit. Cutting down the trees could lead to climate change which would cause global warming
