Fake news report

We are surrounded by news every day, however, a big percent of them is fake news. It is false or misleading information that is presented as news. The creators of fake news often aim to damage the reputation of a person or entity, or even make money through advertising revenue.
Currently, social media platforms are becoming the easiest place to spread misleading information, which means that there are not a lot of rules for spreading fake news online. We have been asked in our English course to investigate how to spot false information and what can be done to help stop the spread of it. Our research shows that there is a need for people to form some habits that would benefit their critical thinking, which we have outlined in this report.
• The reasons why forming critical thinking is important.
1. Types of false information
There are several types of false information, in other words fake news, including:
a) The first one, that is considered the most popular form of misleading people nowadays in social media is clickbait. Most common form of clickbait is headlines of social media post, for example a YouTube video, that attract visitor’s attention and encourage to click on that video or a link for a longer story of a topic that was given in a headline.
b) Another type of fake news is propaganda, that is more and more important for us to spot now. Propaganda are stories that promote one way of thinking on a particular political cause. Propaganda is often used as a material that is created by government as for example a part of political campaigns or war efforts. It is considered to be a manipulative approach nowadays that is spread in movies, books, radio, leaflets, posters and social media.
