Book report “My Second Life” by Faye Bird

The main theme of this story is Emma’s life and Anna’s life. So, from the prologue and first chapters we find out that the main character was first born as Emma Trees, she was born to Amanda and Richard Trees. When she was twenty-two, she died. Then she was born a second time, only six years after she left the first time. Now she is Ana Ross born in 2000, she was born to Rachel Ross and David Summers. From the first moments of her new life she knew that she was different because she remembered her first life, she remembered her parents Amanda and Richard, she remembered her life as Emma, for instance she knew what it felt like to taste olives and unripe avocados before she put them in her mouth or how to hail a cab in New York. She was living a new life with her past self memories. She got used to living her life as Ana and she didn’t tell anyone her secret. But one day everything suddenly changed. When she was visiting her grandma Grillie in the hospital, she saw a woman named Frances from her past life. Suddenly a terrifying memory flashed through her mind of a young girl drowning. Ana knew that Frances’ daughter drowned and that nine-year-old Emma was somehow involved in the accident if not responsible. The problem is that she couldn’t remember exactly what happened on the night in question. Consumed by guilt, Ana sets out to find out as much as possible about the person she was before and what she had done.
