City of Panevėžys

Panevezys is a fifth largest city of Lithuania which is located on the banks of the river Nevezis.The year 1503 is considered the symbolic date of its foundation. The city is in the middle of Lithuania and it‘s the capital of Aukstaitija.
In Panevezys you can find a still place to relax and a noisy place to have fun. The city center is called „Freedom square“. There are two fountains,some cafes,shops. You can hear music all the time in Freedom square. There are many sculptures,which made our city much lovelier. The old riverbed is next to the city center. It‘s the place where you can rest from the city noises. It‘s a very popular place for walking. In the warm season in Old riverbed there are many ducks and some swans. These water birds are usually fed by people.On the other side of the river across the tree tops the spires of the St. Peter and Paul‘s Church rise to the sky. Because ot the colour of the bricks it was built of people of the city usually call it Red Church.
From Old riverbed take steps leading to the Kranto street where the house bearing number 21 happens to be the oldest building of the city built in 1614.
