Bricklaying and Masonry

In Construction Materials Skills class we are trying our hand at a variety of different basic construction materials skills ranging from bricklaying to masonry, to carpentry, to painting, to plumbing, to sheet metal, to hot metal. The last six weeks I was learning bricklaying and masonry skills. In this report I will be writing about bricklaying and masonry skills I learned.
The construction industry by its nature, can be a very dangerous everyone have take safety precautions wearing of protective clothing such as safety shoes, goggles, helmets is important.
Placed on bricks reduce the amount of bending. The working space between the mortar boards and walling should be kept completely clear.
Mortals are mixtures of Portland cement, lime and sand or masonry cement and sand. Cement has gradually taken the place of lime; it is much, it suits modern bricks which are much harder.

Where brick used does not require any special finish, attractive appearance which will last for long time.

Brick bonding is a pattern in which brick is laid.
The bond of the brickwork in which the bricks are placed in a pattern of headers and stretchers gives the wall strength and stability.
Stretcher is a brick laid horizontally, flat with the long side of the brick exposed on the outer face of a wall.
Header is a brick laid flat with the short end of the brick exposed.
When building solid walls of on- brick thickness or more it’s possible to introduce a variety of bonds, consisting of headers and stretchers in different patterns.
English bond is formed by either introducing a closer next to quoin heeder or starting each stretcher course with a tree-quarter bat.
