About Lithuanian language

Language is a system of communication used by a country or a community. It’s an important part of a country and it’s culture. We can say that it’s also a part of us. In my opinion, it’s necessary to know our mother tongue’s history. Let’s get started. As you may know lithuanian is a very old language. It’s considered to be the oldest surviving Indo-European language. Our Lithuanian language is a language of the Eastern Baltic branch. As a separate language, it began to develop from the 6th-7th century. Then, when Latvian and Lithuanian languages separated from each other, Lithuanian began to split into dialects, which are Aukštaitian and Samogitian. I’ll talk about them later. A thousand years later, in the 19th century, Lithuania endured a dark time. Our language was banned and it went through a russification period. It affected our native tongue a lot since people were only able to speak russian. After gaining independence most people spoke russified lithuanian, a mix of lithuanian and russian. Nowadays, a bunch of people speak a mix of lithuanian and english and make english words sound lithuanian. In the future many lithuanians may speak english a lot better than lithuanian. The reason behind this could be that english is the language which is used to communicate with people from all over the world and it’s easier. We can give “the new language” a name like englishyfied lithuanian. Now, let’s talk about dialects because I’ve mentioned before that I’ll talk about this.
