Vladimir Nabokov once said: “A major writer combines these three – storyteller, teacher, enchanter”. Literature can be described similarly. Literature is a source of various true or fictional stories; it provides new knowledge and is a piece of art. However, people tend to forget those things nowadays. They prefer to watch adaptations of books – movies instead of taking the time and experiencing the pleasure of reading those books.

2. THE SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES
The Sixties and Seventies were quite turbulent times. It is best reflected in a quotation made by The United States Army general, George Smith Patton: “Better to fight for something than live for nothing”. These decades resulted in various political, social and cultural changes. However, The United States remains divided on whether those changes were for the better or for, the worse.
There were The Cold war, the Vietnam war, and anti-war protests during these periods. Martin Luther King said his famous speech, “I have a dream”. Besides that, the Civil Rights Act prohibited discrimination in employment, schools, hospitals, and privately owned public places like restaurants or theatres based on race, colour, religion, sex, or national origin. Additionally, health insurance programmes like Medicare for the elderly and Medicaid for the poor were created. These decades are often called ‘decades of movements’ because of a great variety of movements such as women’s rights, LGBT, countercultural (hippie) movements and others.
Some consider The Sixties and Seventies as a time when people became more free, others – when people became more lost.
