The Indian Ocean earthquake was an undersea earthquake that occurred (ivyko) 4 years ago on December 26, at 7 am local time. It was one of the deadliest disasters in history and the second largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismograph. The magnitude (dydis) was between 9.1 and 9.3. This earthquake resulted a series of devastating (niokojantys) tsunamis along the coasts of India, Thailand, Asia, Sri Lanka and all of the islands in the Indian Ocean. The epicentre was at the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Tsunami killed more than 225 thousand people in 11 countries, hundreds were announced missing and the global death toll (nelaimes aukos) continued to raise because of the absence of drinking water and food. Consequently the diseases such as cholera or hepatitis spread. Everyone wanted to escape to the safety, but there were not enought plains to evacuate people. Only 7000 people were displaced.
In deep ocean water tsunami waves form only a small, barely (vos) noticeable hump (kauburys), which travels at a very high speed of 500 to 1,000 km an hour. near coastlines tsunami slows down to only tens of kilometres an hour, but forms the waves up to 30 meters high.
