The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is an American novel set in the 1920s. The novel follows Jay Gatsby, a wealthy businessman, as he pursues his dream of reuniting with his long-lost love, Daisy Buchanan. While Fitzgerald’s novel is often seen as a romantic exploration of the “American Dream”, there is much more to The Great Gatsby than meets the eye.
At its core, The Great Gatsby is a reflection of the emptiness and vanity of the roaring twenties. The Jazz Age is a time of great economic prosperity, filled with parties, opulence and excess.
